October Meeting Recap

Thanks so much to everyone who came to our October First Moms Meeting at FBC.
We had over 40 women present and were so excited to see each and every one of them.

If you are still interested in joining our group, it's not too late!  We meet on the first Thursday of the month, 845am-11am, at FBC south campus in Skiatook.  Come join us!

We continued our study of the Raising Boys and Girls DVD and booklet.
(By the way the answers to the listening guide are in the back of the book!)
The topic was The World of Preschoolers, ages birth to 5 years old.
Boys and girls each learn and develop differently.  Generally speaking, girls are relational, engaging, intuitive, and imaginative.  Boys can be wild, active, adventurous, curious, and experiential.  Our table discussions were very engaging as we talked about how our kids either exactly fit into these categories...or were the direct opposite!

We also did a super fun craft during our meeting.  We made a wooden "Fall" pumpkin blocks. It was a fun time of chatting and laughing.  They turned out so cute!

First Moms of Skiatook FIRST Meeting was AWESOME

Last Thursday September 4, 2014 we had our FIRST First Moms of Skiatook meeting at First Baptist Church.  It was SO MUCH FUN!
We had almost 30 women present - laughing, eating, sharing.  It was awesome!  And for quite a few of the moms it was their first time coming to a mom's group.

The welcome table looked beautiful and welcoming!  Rebecca did a wonderful job picking out the colors and accents.

Heidi, our coordinator, had us do a really fun ice breaker.  The four corners of the gym floor were numbered 1,2,3,4.  She read a list of 4 options and which ever option you liked the best, you moved to that corner of the gym.  For example, which is your favorite way to relax: manicure, pedicure, massage, or haircut.  The "massage" corner was quite full!  Which is your favorite type of music: Mexican, Italian, Chinese, American.  A lot of us LOVE Mexican food!  It was hilarious watching us all mosey around the gym and seeing what common interests we all share.

We began our DVD video and book discussion on Raising Boys and Girls.  You can check out the authors' website and blog at www.raisingboysandgirls.com  The first video was mostly an introduction from one of the authors about how she started the organization and her motivation behind helping children, adolescents, and families.  Next month we start talking about preschoolers!  If you didn't receive a copy of the book yet, don't fret.  We'll have more available at the October 2 meeting.

Our whole group seemed really interested in the video and the discussion that followed.  The book is filled with discussion questions, so it was really easy to be engaged and to learn more about each other.

After watching the first segment of the video and discussion time, we worked on our crafts.  We will have time for DVD, discussion, and crafts at each meeting.  We did two crafts this first month.  We created our super cute name tags and a beaded key chain with a pewter feather. Both were easy to make even for the "non-crafty" people in our bunch! :-)

All in all it was a TERRIFIC meeting of First Moms!  We are so happy for the women that decided to join us.  New moms are always welcome.  We meet the 1st Thursday of the month in the gym area of First Baptist Church in Skiatook, 845am-11am.  Hope to see you there!!!

September 4 Meeting preview

Hello fellow Moms!!!
We are so excited about our upcoming
First Moms meeting on Sept 4 at FBC Skiatook!!!
We hope you can join us.  This is the first meeting of our new calendar year and the first meeting since we've changed over from Skiatook Mops.
A lot of great things that worked under Mops will stay the same -
yummy delicious brunch, fabulous speakers and discussion questions,
childcare available for your little ones.

But we have some new surprises in store this year as First Moms!!!
The BIGGEST BLESSING to us has been that First Baptist Church has graciously incorporated us into their ministry program and that means
First Moms is FREE TO ATTEND!!!

You do not need to be a member of FBC to join First Moms or to receive this terrific deal.  Our members attend a variety of churches in the surrounding area: Life Church Owasso, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, GUTS,
Prue First Baptist are just a few.

We are so grateful to FBC and their leadership for appreciating and supporting this moms group.

Our Theme for the year is
"Our Strength is in our Quiver"
Psalm 127:3-5
"Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one's youth.
Blessed is the man [MOM]
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame when
they contend with their opponents in court."

This year we will be following along with the
Raising Boys and Girls DVD series by Goff, Thomas, and Trevathan.
You can check out their website at www.raisingboysandgirls.com for additional information and links.

First Kids is our childcare program this year.
Our childcare coordinators have developed a wonderful program to keep your little ones entertained and cared after.
